You won't meet many people in life who wouldn't be happy to win the lottery. Money is a major concern for many of us and there is a good chance that you're doing what you can to make the most of the money you're earning. If you're trying to save up for something, whether that be a much needed vacation or so that you can make a down payment on a house, you might find that it's difficult to cut back and put money away. But, there are some strategies that can help you build a healthy nest egg or savings account.

The first thing that you can do is make sure that you're shopping around when it comes to the things that you're often paying for. While you might like the gourmet grocery store around the corner from your home, you might find that most items are a little cheaper at the discount store down the street. This does not mean that you can't have a few of those specialty items. But, you should make sure that you're spending as little as possible when it comes to each item that you buy. This also goes for things like car insurance, your cable bill, and cell phone. Finding plans that can save you even ten dollars a month will add up over time.

Don't rely on paying with credit cards. While it might be much easier to whip out your Visa every time you need to pay for anything from a picture print to a pack of gum, you will find that it is more difficult to keep track of how much you're spending on a daily basis this way. If you're someone who is part of some sort of points plan on your card, attach a post it note to the card each day to track your purchases. This will help you decide if you really need that new sweater or if you should be going out for a night on the town with friends.

Make saving money part of your routine. When you're putting money towards savings or making your monthly mortgage payment, it is usually predictable when you're going to have to send that money away. Do this with money going to your savings account as well. Put away fifty dollars each week or have a sum of your pay check that goes into a separate account. You will find that you won't miss the money as much this way. And you can add up your savings even faster if when you get a bonus for freelancing in intellectual property translation or when you win a little at the casino you immediately put it into your savings instead of spending it on a little treat for yourself. There are so many ways to make saving part of your everyday life.
